Thermal-Interface Material Rides Silicone Free

For use where contamination concerns prohibit the use of silicone-based thermal pads, Keratherm U 90, a silicone-free thermal interface material, provides high levels of thermal conductivity. The material consists of a ceramic-filled polyurethane film with a thermal conductivity of 6 W/mK and a thermal impedance of 0.05 Kin.2/W. It specifies a voltage-breakdown property of 4 kV and provides perforation protection with a tensile strength of 2.5 N/mm2 and a Shore A hardness of 70. The U 90 interface material is available in thicknesses of 0.1 mm and 0.2 mm and both standard and custom shapes in continuous rolls for automated or manual application. Pricing for U 90 thermal interface pads starts at $0.15 for 1-in. square, 0.2-mm thick pads in high-volume quantities. MH&W INTERNATIONAL CORP., Mahwah, NJ. (201) 891-8800.
