Transponder Coils Target Automotive Applications

Jan. 10, 2007
The extrusion-coated B82450A series inductors from EPCOS are strong enough to tackle high-stress applications.

Developed in close cooperation with the automotive industry, the B82450A series of extrusion-coated inductors from EPCOS Inc. feature high mechanical strength, making them well-suited for demanding applications like immobilizers and tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS), as well as other high-stress applications. For an immobilizer, the coils are incorporated in the car key. In a TPMS, they are located in the wheel, where they are exposed to high mechanical and dynamic stresses.

The robust transponder coils are designed for a frequency of 125 kHz and can be operated in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 125°C. The RoHS-compliant components are suitable for lead-free soldering to JEDEC J-STD-020C and can be processed with automatic SMD placement systems. The company's automated and flexible manufacturing system allows it to respond quickly to customer-specific requirements.
