Vision Sensor Goes Full Circle With 360° Part Detection

May 7, 2014
Balluff’s BVS Universal Vision Sensor leverages a 360° algorithm to provide 360° part position detection, defect finding, contour-based counting and matching, bar-code reading (linear and 2D data matrix or DM), and optical character verification (OCV).

Balluff’s BVS Universal Vision Sensor leverages a 360° algorithm to provide 360° part position detection, defect finding, contour-based counting and matching, bar-code reading (linear and 2D data matrix or DM), and optical character verification (OCV). Replete with a RS-232 port and digital I/O, the sensor reads multiple codes simultaneously. Speed is another key factor—up to 40 codes per second can be located, read, and verified in any orientation. Its OCV function verifies printed sequences of characters and numbers, such as batch numbers or minimum shelf-life dates. It comes in 6-, 8-, and 12-mm lens versions with either a built-in visible red or infrared ring light. Sensor resolution is 640 by 480. Other features include PNP digital outputs, the ability to trigger an external light sources, and an Ethernet TCP/IP port for PC-based configuration. Applications range from assembly and presence control to code reading/verification and advanced part position detection.
