The MAX9718 single-channel and MAX9719 dual-channel audio amplifiers are capable of outputting 1.4W from a single 5V supply into a 4 ohms load and 475 mW from a 3V supply into an 8 ohms load. Both devices feature a differential-input structure with a bridge-tied load output stage. This topology is said to provide up to four times the output power of a conventional, single-ended output stage and eliminates the need for output-coupling capacitors. The audio amplifiers are available in an open-loop, adjustable-gain configuration or with internally fixed gains of 0 dB, 3 dB and 6 dB. Other features of the devices include a low-power shutdown mode, clickless power up/down, short-circuit protection, and thermal-overload protection. The MAX9718 is available in 9-bump UCSP, 10-pin TDFN, and 10-pin microMAX packages and MAX9719 is available housed in 16-bump UCSP, 16-pin TQFNs and 16-pin TSSOPs. Prices for MAX9718 and MAX9719 start at $0.45 and $0.54 each/100K, respectively. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
