Designers of handheld PCs, PDAs, wireless phones, portable music systems, and other portable products can reduce power consumption, system size and cost with TPA005D02, a Class-D audio power amplifier that reportedly extends battery life by 300% compared to the older Class-AB audio power amps. The device is capable of driving stereo speakers at 2W continuously with 5W peaks and is claimed as the first in the industry to integrate the control circuitry and stereo output stage on a single monolithic die. It is well-suited for battery-operated applications because of its efficient utilization of supply current, as well as its low-power shutdown mode. With a 5V supply, the device will drive 4 ohm stereo speakers and has a very low total harmonic distortion levels plus noise of just 0.5% across the entire audio frequency range. It is available in a TSSOP.
