The MED25006 is an all-digital surround sound processor that decodes matrix-encoded stereo and produces 2.1 channel PCM digital 3D audio. And because the chip initially decodes audio into 4.1 channel Dolby Poly Logic and then reprocesses it into 2.1 channels, the resulting 3D audio contains virtualized surround sound information. The chip can be used in several system configurations and its flexibility allows one device to span an entire audio product family and to add enhanced features to the final system configuration. The Virtual Dolby Surround algorithms create a realistic 360° sound field that is especially useful in systems that cannot physically accommodate rear surround speakers, such as desktop multimedia computers, arcade games, and stereo TVs.
