Designed for audio applications, the WM8816 low-distortion, low-noise stereo volume controller delivers total harmonic distortion and noise at 0.001%. The device combines digitally-controlled volume adjustment and peak level detection on a single chip, making it suitable for a range of audio applications, including audio amplifiers and pre-amplifiers, home entertainment systems, mixing desks and audio recording equipment. With a maximum input signal level of ±18V and positive gain up to 15.5 dB, the IC can easily interface to very large and small audio signals. The chip requires only a single 5V supply voltage and can share its power supply with other system components. Available in a small 16-pin SOIC package, the device is priced at $2.90 each/10,000.
