Redriver Accelerates SATA Signals To 6 Gb/s

The MAX4952B dual-channel buffer redrives SAS/eSATA/SATA signals at speeds up to 6 Gb/s on both the transmit and receive channels.

The MAX4952B dual-channel buffer redrives SAS/eSATA/SATA signals at speeds up to 6 Gb/s on both the transmit and receive channels. The device preserves signal integrity at the receiver by reestablishing full output levels and it reduces system jitter by squaring the signal. It supports SAS/SATA out-of-band signaling via high-speed amplitude detection on the inputs and amplitude squelch on the corresponding outputs. In SAS mode, input signals of 120 mVp-p or less are detected as off and not passed on and in SATA mode, detection circuitry squelches input signals less than 50 mVp-p. The redriver integrates a power-down mode to squelch the output through an enable input as well as independent output-boost controls that allow users to program each redriver channel to overcome losses presented by the board and/or any other losses. Operating from a 3.3V supply over a temperature range from 0°C to +70°C, the MAX4952B is available in a 20-pin TQFN measuring 4 mm x 4 mm. Price starts at $2.50 each/1,000.
