Tailored for low-end through middle-range car information terminals, the SH77721 SoC integrates advanced functionality in a single chip to provide an attractive cost-to-performance ratio. The chip employs a 32-bit, 333-MHz 599-MIPS 2.3-GFLOPS superscalar SH-4A CPU core with cache and a floating point unit. It also packs an advanced graphics processor with 3D and 2D drawing capabilities and the company offers a high-performance 2D and 3D graphics library that enables users to extract maximum performance from the graphics processor. Peripheral functions include a USB v2.0 host/function interface, SD card host interface, GPS baseband processing module, FM multiplex decoder, and a CAN interface. Other features of the SoC include an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C, the ability to function using only one DDR2 SDRAM chip instead of the four external DDR1 chips required by the SH7770 SH-Navi device, and a 440-pin BGA package measuring 23 mm x 23 mm. Sample price is $47. RENESAS TECHNOLOGY AMERICA INC., San Jose, CA. (408) 382-7407.
