Addressing the DVB-S2 HDTV satellite standard, the company’s latest set-top box front-end chipset for digital satellite high-definition TV equipment consists of the STV6110A silicon tuner and the STV0903 single-channel satellite TV demodulator. Both meet all the requirements of the DVB-S2 standard for broadcast applications. The STV6110A silicon tuner is a replacement for the existing STB6000 and STB6100 tuners and is suitable for use in markets outside of the DVB-S2 standard such as Japan and China. The tuner and demodulator combo specifies a power consumption of 600 mW and 1.2W, respectively, which is approximately 50% of the combined power consumption of the company’s previous chipset. Full software support is available via the company’s application program interface. Both devices support QPSK and 8PSK modulation as well as DVB-S and DVB-S2 processing. Prices for the STV0903 demodulator in a 14 mm x 14 mm, 128-pin LQFP and the STV6110A tuner in 5 mm x 5 mm, 32-pin QFN are $9 and $1.50 each/10,000, respectively. STMICROELECTRONICS, Lexington, MA.
