USB MCU Heightens Token-App Security

July 13, 2010
The MAXQ1010 16-bit microcontroller adds security to USB token and USB card reader applications.

Employing security techniques normally reserved for financial terminals, the MAXQ1010 16-bit microcontroller adds security to USB token and USB card reader applications. The device integrates a true random-number generator and high-speed AES and 3DES encryption engines. Features include 128KB of flash memory, a USB transceiver and physical interface, real-time clock, smart card UART, and numerous I/O options. The MAXQ1010 consumes 6 mA while running its single-cycle 16-bit core at 12 MHz, and only 400 nA in stop mode. Available in a 48-pin TQFN package, prices start at $3.50 each/1,000.
