A new chipset for optical networks, comprised of the S7022 and S7025, claims to be an industry first. The S7022 is a 2.5 Gb/s quad vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) driver, while the S7025 is a silicon germanium (SiGe) 2.5 Gb/s quad transimpedance amplifier (TIA) with integrated limiting amplifier and loss-of-signal detection circuitry. This chipset enables parallel optical links up to 300m and, when used with the company's S3457 transceiver, provides a 10 Gb/s, bi-directional, very short reach (VSR) OC-192 link. The S7022 operates from a 3.3-V supply and accepts differential low-voltage PECL inputs. The S7025 provides a 10 kV/A transimpedance, 6 µA to 500 µA p-p input current range, and differential CML outputs. The S7022 and S7025 are priced at $30 and $39 each/10,000, respectively.
