Chip Fires Up AMOLED Displays

Oct. 14, 2010
Powering the AMOLED displays in 3G smartphones, the STOD03A provides the necessary positive and negative supply voltages from a single chip.

Powering the AMOLED displays in 3G smartphones, the STOD03A provides the necessary positive and negative supply voltages from a single chip. The device achieves up to 85% overall efficiency for longer overall battery life. Other power-saving features include automatic pulse-skipping operation for low power consumption at light loads and a true shutdown mode drawing less than 1 µA, activated through the enable pin. Other features include a 4.6V fixed positive output voltage, programmable negative output voltage from -2.4V to -5.4V, 200-mA output current, and 1.5-MHz operation. Available in a 12-lead DFN12L package measuring 3 mm x 3 mm x 0.6 mm, price is $0.80 each/1000. STMICROELECTRONICS, Lexington, MA. (888) 787-3550.
