The ADJD-J823 debuts as the industry’s first color controller with an integrated color photo sensor, making it viable for backlighting LCD screens measuring 7" diagonal, or smaller, used in a variety of portable display devices. In a 5 mm x 5 mm x 0.75 mm package, the integrated color management device operates with voltages as low as 2.5V. Essentially a CMOS mixed-signal IC with integrated RGB photo sensors, the device is designed to be the closed-loop optical feedback device of an RGB LED-based backlighting system. It exhibits a wide gain control and uses an algorithm to automatically select the optimum gain. In addition to the RGB photo-sensor array, the ADJD-J823 also integrates an a/d converter front-end, color-data-processing logic core. and a 12-bit PWM output generator. Price is less than $10 each in low volume. AVAGO TECHNOLOGIES, Santa Clara, CA. (800) 235-0312.
