A surface-mount version of the firm's VTD34 silicon photodiode is said to deliver fast response times and low dark currents. The photodiodes are used as light detectors in cameras, scanners, light curtains and security equipment. The surface-mount version, which is designated the VTD34SM, is molded in water-clear plastic for broad spectral response applications. Another version, called the VTD34FSM, is molded in a visible light-blocking plastic package for near-infrared applications. All versions are packaged on tape-and-reel for applications in automated assembly processes. The photodiode chip provides an active optical area of 7.45 mm2, providing adequate sensitivity for most applications. Custom arrays can be formed by mounting individual units side-by-side.
