Providing clock generation and switching on a single-chip, the MPC9893, MPC9894, and MPC9993 are heralded as the industry's first family of intelligent dynamic clock drivers targeting systems that require redundant fail-over clock functions. Each of these devices integrate logic for clock-redundant applications including clock-failure detection and automatic switching. They employ a PLL to generate signals for up to four redundant clock sources and continuously monitor both input clock signals. A 2.5V or 3.3V device in a 48-pin LQFP, the MPC9893 operates from a 6.25 to 200 MHz output frequency and features two-way redundancy reference-clock inputs that receive two LVCMOS signals and generate 12 phase-aligned outputs. The MPC9894 operates from a 27.5 to 440 MHz output frequency over a temperature range from -40°C to 80°C. Available in a 100-pin PBGA, it provides eight clock outputs organized into four banks. In a 32-pin LQFP, the MPC9993 operates at 3.3V and receives two differential LVPECL clock signals and generates five unique differential LVPECL outputs. Prices for the MPC9893, MPC9894, and MPC9993 are $12, $10, and $10 each, respectively, in sample quantities. MOTOROLA INC., Austin, TX. (512) 895-2000.
