Offered as the industry's most highly integrated DSP codec, the AIC23 devices consumes only 19 mW during playback, making it highly suitable for a variety of portable digital audio players and recorders, as well as digital cameras with compressed audio, cellular phones and digital speakers. The device features16 to 32 bits of resolution, a small, 5 x 5 mm footprint, and is designed to interface directly to the programmable TMS320 DSPs.
In addition, the device's A/D and D/A converters are designed using multi-bit Sigma-Delta technology for supporting a sampling range of from 8 to 96 kHz with four resolutions from 16 to 32 bits. The A/D converter modulates with a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 97 dB and the D/A converter modulates with a SNR of 100 dB. Other integrated features include stereo line inputs with programmable gain amplifiers, a microphone input with a side tone path, built-in clock circuit, and a headset output drive of 30 mW at 32 ohms.
These features all help to simplify designs by eliminating the need for additional components. An additional chip, the TLV320DAC23, is identical to the AIC23 except that it supports playback only.
Added is support comes via an evaluation module designed as a direct-connect daughter card for the 'C54x evaluation module and software plug-in modules for DSP codec software configuration. Pricing is $3.99 for the AIC23 and $2.99 for the DAC23, each/1,000.
