The company has upped the ante on its TMS320C6711 DSP by raising floating-point performance up to 1,500 MFLOPS, while maintaining the same package, functions, and instruction compatibility. The device operates at 250 MHz and performs up to six IEEE-compatible floating-point operations per cycle. Fabricated on 0.13-µm CMOS technology, operating voltages are 1.4V core and 3.3V I/O. Other features include 32 general-purpose registers, four floating-/fixed-point ALUs, two fixed-point ALUs, two floating-/fixed-point multipliers, and 8 KB of L1 cache plus 64 KB of L2 cache. In terms of I/O, the device supplies an enhanced DMA controller with 16 independent channels, a 32-bit external memory interface, host-port interface, and two multi-channel serial ports. Price is $18 each/10,000. TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC., Dallas, TX. (800) 477-8924.
