Allowing the safe insertion and removal of circuit-line cards with multiple supplies into a live backplane, the MAX5927/MAX5929 quad and MAX5930/MAX5931 triple hot-swap controllers are rated for systems with 1V to 13.2V supplies and specify a variety of features to reduce external component counts. Input-voltage rails can be configured to sequentially turn on/off, track each other, or operate independently. Each controller includes a variable-speed/bi-level circuit breaker with a 25-mV threshold that protects against over-current conditions and prevents nuisance faults caused by noise and load transients. Other common features include an adjustable-input, under-voltage lockout, a power-good status indicator, and latched or auto-retry fault management. Prices for the MAX5927, MAX5929, MAX5930, and MAX5931 start at $5.68, $5.14, $4.34, and $3.94, respectively, each/1,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
