Middleware Helps Developers Optimize DaVinci Applications

Feb. 13, 2007
Now supporting Texas Instruments' DaVinci processors, ORBexpress from Objective Interface Systems allows code portability between the DSP and ARM portions of the devices.

Embedded developers can now use the small-footprint ORBexpress middleware to easily leverage the performance benefits of Texas Instruments' DaVinci technology, including the TMS320DM644x system-on-chips. ORBexpress, from Objective Interface Systems, enables code portability across both the TMS320C64x+ DSP and ARM cores of the DM644x devices. This speeds up development of a wide range of digital video processing applications for which the DaVinci technology has been optimized, such as client-side video, security video surveillance, set-top boxes, video phones, automotive vision systems, and others.

ORBexpress is based on the Real-time Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) standard, which enables real-time and embedded devices in heterogeneous environments to communicate seamlessly. The middleware fully supports the tool chain for the DaVinci processors, including TI's Code Composer Studio integrated development environment and DSP/BIOS real-time kernel. Also supported are third-party real-time operating systems, including Green Hills Software's Integrity and MontaVista Linux, on the ARM portion of the DM644x processors. Optimized for a small footprint and high-throughput, ORBexpress allows developers to easily maximize performance in both the general-purpose and DSP portions of the processor, providing greater flexibility and portability of high-performance video processing and other applications.
