Desktop video editing, digital still cameras, set-top boxes, and digital TVs are among the many applications for six new cores for the Xilinx's Virtex and Spartan FPGA families. The cores are from CAST Inc., a partner in Xilinx's AllianceCORE group, and include: three cores for image compression and decompression; three wavelet-based image and video codec cores; and digital signal processing circuitry.
