The book begins with an overview of system-on-a-chip technology, including definitions of related terms. Readers can learn how ASIC technology evolved to an embedded cores-based concept that includes pre-designed, reusable Intellectual Property (IP) cores that act as microprocessors, data storage devices, DSPs, bus controllers and interfaces—all stitched together by a User's Defined Logic. Part one discusses SoC-related design difficulties, including hardware-software co-design, reuse design and core design, while part two reviews the challenges of and methodologies for testing SoCs.
