Many types of motor controls and industrial power supplies have environments that most SMD current sense resistors simply can't handle. That doesn’t apply to the CSS/CSSH Series of current-sense resistors, which incorporate a metal-plate technology to allow operation up to 275ºC ; most other SMD current sense resistors are limited to only 155ºC to 170ºC. In addition, the CSS/CSSH series is rated for full-power operation up to 100ºC instead of 70ºC. This allows engineers to use smaller chip sizes for their application, or keep the same size part and reduce the overall heat generated by the power circuit. Parts are available in chip sizes 1206 (0.5 W), 2010 (1 W), 2512 (2 W and 3 W), 2725 (4 W), and 2728 (3 W and 4 W). TCRs range from 15 ppm to 50 ppm and tolerances down to 0.5% are available as standard product.
