Dramatically improved EMI shielding for plug-in modules is claimed for Double-D-shaped gaskets developed as an environmentally friendly and lower-cost alternative to traditional beryllium-copper gaskets. The new gaskets allow bidirectional wiping action without damaging the gasket or degrading the shielding. And they are said to be easy to handle and attach, have no hazardous material content, and have a closing force that is considerably less than for BeCu strips at the same compression. The Double-D gasket is compatible with current rack designs because the height is similar and the width is the same as the width of the BeCu strips it seeks to replace. The gasket consists of highly conductive silver fabric over open-cell urethane foam that’s shaped to withstand bidirectional wiping forces.
