Interconnect Technology A First For Intel Embedded Computing

Aug. 27, 2010
The Protocol Offload Engine Technology (POET) protocol-agnostic, multi-standard switch fabric technology enables companies to migrate to open solutions.

Welcomed as the industry’s first multi-fabric connectivity solution for Intel processors, the Protocol Offload Engine Technology (POET) protocol-agnostic, multi-standard switch fabric technology enables companies to migrate to open solutions, future-proof their applications, and guard their investment by ensuring a wide range of standards can be implemented without hardware changes. The technology implements a collection of standard interfaces to create a bridge between processors and switch fabrics. Initially it will support both Serial RapidIO (sRIO) and 10-Gb Ethernet. Future POET releases will support next-gen switch fabrics like 40-Gb Ethernet and Infiniband as well as offload protocols such as RDMA over Converged Ethernet, an Infiniband over Ethernet standard.
