Revenues rise at STMicro

Semiconductor manufacturer STMicroelectronics reported net income of $187 million ($0.21 per share) on revenues of $2.3 billion for its fourth quarter ended Dec. 31.

Semiconductor manufacturer STMicroelectronics reported net income of $187 million ($0.21 per share) on revenues of $2.3 billion for its fourth quarter ended Dec. 31. Fourth quarter net income a year ago was $144 million ($0.16) on revenues of $2.1 billion.

For the 12 months ended Dec. 31, STMicro recorded net income of $601 million ($0.65) on revenues of $8.76 billion. Net income in 2003 was $253 million ($0.27) on revenues of $7.24 billion.

STMicroelectronics president and chief executive officer Pasquale Pistorio says year-over-year revenues climbed 10.2% in the fourth quarter and 21% for the year. Automotive applications, along with wireless and digital consumer products, grew faster than the company average.

Pistorio said ST has begun volume production of an eight-bit microcontroller that integrates controller area network (CAN) and local interconnect network (LIN) bus interfaces, plus 60 kbytes of Flash memory.
