Vying for use in a myriad of applications, this new family of LEDs is offered in both bullet-shaped and chip packages. Bullet-shaped devices are available in 3-, 4- and 5-mm sizes in oval, round, concave-tip, bow and block-type shapes. Typical size for the chip LEDs is 1.4 mm x 1.5 mm x 3 mm. Both bullet-shaped and chip types are available in red, green, blue, yellow, amber, orange, bi-color, tri-color and infrared, with brightness ranging from several millicandelas to several candelas.
Lead time is about 12 weeks and price ranges from $0.03 to $2 each. The new LEDs were developed by Sanken Electric and are being marketed here by Allegro Microsystems.
