The HV9961, an average-mode, constant-control LED driver IC designed to drive LEDs using a buck topology, is well-suited for a variety of solid-state lighting applications. The HV9961 provides current accuracy of ±3% and requires no loop compensation or high-side current sensing due to the company’s average-mode control scheme. The IC features hiccup-mode LED short-circuit protection and both linear and PWM dimming. Thanks to the device’s wide input-voltage range, the HV9961 can tackle a host of LED lighting applications such as street, architectural, decorative, and industrial, as well as backlighting LCD screens. The HV9961 is available in SOIC-8 and SOIC-16 packages (HV9961LG-G and HV9961NG-G, respectively) and is pin-compatible with the company’s HV9910B LED driver. Samples of the HV9961LG-G are available from stock; check for availability of samples of the HV9961NG-G. Lead time for production quantities is four to six weeks. Pricing is $1.40 each for the HV9961LG-G and $1.49 each for the HV9961NG-G, both in lots of 1000. SUPERTEX INC., Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 222-9883.
