With a bit of design work, the company's highest-speed DDR2 RAM and its fastest graphics memory are optimal candidates for use with AMD's Phenom processors and the latest ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series graphics processing units (GPUs). The Phenom CPUs provide a high-speed L3, 2-MB cache to boost information flow between processor cores, main memory, and graphics and video accelerators. The company's 512-Mb DRAM delivers 1,066-million data transfers per second and is available in densities up to 1 GB per module. Its fastest memory chip, a 1.2-GHz GDDR4 device, is fully compatible with the ATI Radeon HD 3870 GPU, which transfers data at 72 Gb/s. In addition, the 900-Mhz GDDR3 operates seamlessly with the ATI Radeon HD 3850 GPU. The 1.2-GHz GDDR4 is available in a 16Mx32 configuration, while the 900 MHz GDDR3 is comes in an 8Mx32 configuration. SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS AMERICA INC., Ridgefield Park, NJ. (201) 229-4000.
