Camcorders, digital cameras, cell phones, pagers, and other portable consumer goods where miniaturization is a primary design goal are expected to benefit most from a new range of serial EEPROMs housed in SBGA chip-scale packages. With a footprint area of just 3.3 mm2 (equal to the area of the chip) and a height of only 0.7 mm, the M24C16-REA6T EEPROM provides 16 Kbits of non-volatile memory organized as 2048 x 8 bits. In addition to byte-level read/write operation, the device also offers a page write mode (up to 16 bytes), a two-wire I2C serial interface supporting the 400-kHz protocol, and a power-on reset circuit to prevent data corruption and spurious write operations during power up. The CMOS part operates from a 1.8V-3.6V supply and has a minimum data retention time of 40 years and a guaranteed read/write endurance of at least one million cycles.
