The MPC533, MPC534, MPC535, and MPC536 family of microcontrollers (MCUs) are primarily focused on computationally intensive applications, as opposed to I/O control and automation. Based on a RISC and 40 MHz PowerPC core, the devices include a dual precision floating point unit, 26 KB to 56 KB of SRAM, 512 KB to 1 MB of flash memory, and are pin compatible with the MPC56x series. Depending on the device, they include a queued serial multi-channel module (QSMCM) for UART and SPI support, an a/d converter with 16 analog input channels, controller area network (CAN) module, a modular I/O system with 22 timing channels, PWM functionality, and JTAG and background-debug modules. A comprehensive suite of hardware and software development tools is available and development support is available from Metrowerks, as well as other third-party vendors. Prices for the MPC533, MPC534, MPC535, and MPC536 are $21.70, $24.95, $33.97, and $39.07, respectively, each/10,000. MOTOROLA INC., Austin, TX. (512) 895-2000.
