The VERSA1 is a fully integrated microcontroller-based data acquisition system-on-a-chip (SoC) designed to facilitate the use of products that require production-based calibration (e.g., complex sensors). This is accomplished by including a set of non-traditional on-chip components. In addition to a four-channel, 12-bit a/d converter, the SoC also features an 8051-compatible microprocessor and a large amount of memory. The on-chip components include a programmable constant current source driver and a MAC block. The current source driver can be used to excite components such as resistive bridges or a thermistor. The MAC block allows the user the ability to perform math-based calculations to a much higher degree of accuracy than standard look-up table-based applications.
