In an attempt to eradicate long lead times for MELF-type devices, the company now offers low-profile, surface-mount cylindrical resistors with lead times as short as four weeks. The MM Series power resistors are offered as drop-in replacements for the MELF devices that are said to currently have lead times of more than 25 weeks.
The replacement devices use a patented Metal Glaze thick-film resistive element fired onto a ceramic core with capless solder terminations. This technique promises a rugged resistor with improved surge-handling capability, enhanced heat dissipation, and improved solderability.
Available in sizes MMA0204 (1206), MMB0207 (2512), and MMC0310 (3610), the devices come in power ratings from 0.25W to 2W and a resistance range of 0.1 ohm to 2.2 Megaohms with tolerances down to 0.5% and TCRs down to ±50 ppm/°C. Operating temperature range is from -55°C to +150°C.
