A high-input-voltage analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with an extended clocking scheme will be able to interface to a wider range of host processors. Unveiled by Wolfson Microelectronics plc, the Wolfson WM8781 offers a low-cost stereo, high-performance audio ADC solution for recordable media applications such as DVD players, personal video recorders, set-top boxes, and studio audio-processing equipment.

The solutions are designed to reduce overall system cost by minimising the number of external components. Because they’re hardware-controlled, softwaredevelopment effort is also reduced. In addition, the wide ADC sampling frequency of up to 192kHz allows for a greater range of analogue input signals.

The WM8781 offers the added capability of a 384fs master mode for host processors that generate this clock frequency. Support is included for master- or slave-mode clocking schemes.
