The SPT7851, a high-performance 10-bit, 20-Msamples/s monolithic CMOS analog-to-digital converter (ADC), consumes only 79 mW from a single 3-V supply. It achieves 9.3 effective number of bits (ENOBs) of dynamic performance, and a typical spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) of 70 dB. According to its manufacturer, it can sample signals approaching a 10-MHz Nyquist frequency while maintaining a performance that's 2 to 7 dB better than its competitors.

Its 120-MHz input bandwidth lets designers use the ADC for direct IF down-conversion in communications systems. Its pipelined architecture has internal sample-and-hold, along with digital correction of all 10 bits. This results in a ±0.6-LSP differential linearity with no missing codes, and a ±0.75-LSB integral linearity. Fully digital analog inputs accommodate single-ended or differential inputs, while a minimum of external components are required for operation.

It's available in a 10- by 10-mm, 44-lead thin quad flat pack (TQFP) over a −40° to 85°C industrial temperature range. Priced at $3.30 each in 1000-unit quantities, the SPT7851 is available now.
