The SPT7938 is a monolithic CMOS 12-bit, 40-Msample/s analog-to-digital converter (ADC). According to its manufacturer, its 170-mW power dissipation is 50% to 60% lower than the dissipation of other comparable ADCs. Also, its on-chip track-and-hold assures good dynamic performance without the need for external components. The ADC's 250-MHz (for 2-VP-P input) typical input bandwidth is viable for many direct IF downconversion applications. Operating from a single +5.0-V power supply, it has selectable +3- or +5-V logic I/O. These features all suit the SPT7938 for digital communications, IR imaging, radar receiver, medical imaging, digital camera, and video applications. The ADC, available in a 10- by 5.25-mm, 28-lead SSOP package in a single grade over the −40°C to +85°C industrial temperature range, costs $11.50 each in 1000-unit quantities. Samples and production quantities are available.
