Keysight collaborates with NTT DOCOMO on 5G

July 24, 2015

Keysight Technologies today announced its collaboration with NTT DOCOMO, Japan’s largest mobile service provider, on development of next-generation 5G wireless communication systems.

Keysight will actively support the 5G research programs led by NTT DOCOMO and provide test and measurement solutions and expertise for next-generation 5G wireless communication systems. The collaboration will involve multiple 5G research areas including millimeter-wave (mmWave) communications technology, which plays a major role in enabling 5G.

“NTT DOCOMO is pleased to collaborate with Keysight Technologies, a recognized industry leader in test and measurement,” said Seizo Onoe, chief technology officer of NTT DOCOMO. “NTT DOCOMO is targeting a 5G commercial launch in 2020, and we expect the partnership with Keysight, and use of its deep measurement expertise, will allow our mobile communication industry to gain insight into the capabilities of 5G technologies faster.”

“5G has aggressive performance goals that will be addressed with multiple enabling technologies including mmWave frequencies, ultra-broad bandwidths, massive MIMO, and new air-interfaces,” said Jay Alexander, Keysight’s chief technology officer. “Our 5G research collaboration with industry pioneers like NTT DOCOMO allows us to play a pivotal role in 5G wireless research. We are delighted to provide its research teams with the measurement science and expertise required for the development and demonstration of a new radio access system.”

Keysight’s collaborative engagement with NTT DOCOMO reflects the commitment by Keysight to support industry leaders in the development of next-generation wireless technologies. Keysight’s measurement science and insight around 5G, including millimeter-wave channel sounding, ultra wideband, and massive MIMO measurements will be showcased and explained at the 5G Tokyo Bay Summit, July 22–23, hosted by NTT DOCOMO.

Keysight provides a comprehensive set of 5G electronic design and test tools designed to help engineers gain greater insight into their R&D and manufacturing processes. Keysight’s 5G simulation and measurement solutions include: mmWave, broadband generation and analysis; physical layer designs; MIMO, RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave components and antennas; and high-speed digital and power management. Keysight is working closely with industry consortia, industry-leading companies and academia to advance the next-generation of 5G wireless communications systems.
