Launched as the market's first fully-integrated, multi-rate SONET OC-48 transceiver, the SLK2501 supports bi-directional OC-48, -24, -12 and -3 transmissions. The device integrates multiplexing and demultiplexing, clock/data recovery, and clock generation functions used in optical modules.
Based on a CMOS process, the OC-48 transceiver is said to offer operating characteristics that meet or exceed all SONET/SDH jitter requirements. Other features of the chip include: a power consumption of 650 mW during OC-48 operation; 2.5V operation; a LV-PECL serial interface on the fiber side and a four-bit LVDS interface on the host side; dual-reference clock support at 155 and 625 MHz; and auto-rate detection. The IC also offers add-drop multiplexers (ADMs) and optical ADMs. Available in a 100-pin VQFP, price is $140 each/1,000.
