Setting sights on the storage area network (SAN) market, the AFBR-57D5APZ debuts as the industry's first 8 Gb/s SFP optical transceiver for Fibre Channel applications. The transceiver doubles the bandwidth of previous Fibre Channel SFP optical transceivers and complies with industry SFP + multi-service agreements. It supports signaling rates from 2.125 Gb/s to 8.5 Gb/sec to without the need for external-rate-select inputs and provides real-time temperature, supply voltage, laser-bias current, laser average output power, and received input power diagnostic information. The diagnostic interface also adds the ability to disable the transmitter, monitor for transmitter faults, and monitor receiver signal loss. The AFBR-57D5APZ is available in link lengths up to 150m for 8.5 Gb/s, up to 300m at 4.25 Gb/s, and up to 500 meters at 2.125 Gb/s. Price starts at $100 each in high volumes.
