New hub and switch designs can take advantage of the J20-0017 and J20-0019 RJ-45 connectors, which offer 2-by-4 ports and 2-by-6 ports of Ethernet connections, respectively. The connectors conform fully to the IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet (PoE) standard, which permits 48 V dc to be distributed over the 10/100-Mbit/s twisted-pair CAT-5 or CAT-6 cables. The company's patented internal InterlockBase construction within each port means that adjacent port modules can be shared without sacrificing the connector's electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). These through-hole connectors have a minimum of 1500-VRMS isolation (2 kV typical) and operate from 0°C to 70°C. Pricing is $1.50 per port in lots of 10,000 units.
