With a useful response range of 0.5 to 1.7 µm, the G10889 series of InGaAs PIN photodiodes allow designers to use only one detector in applications where they might otherwise have needed two. By comparison, standard InGaAs PIN diodes have a useful response range of 0.9 to 1.7 µm, and silicon photodiodes cover 400 nm to 1.1 µm. The wide response range is well-suited for communications applications since the G10899 has excellent sensitivity at three of the commonly used wavelengths for optical communications—850, 1310, and 1550 nm—while a standard InGaAs detector would have a very low response at 850 nm. The G10899 comes in three standard active area sizes—1, 2, and 3 mm—with the 1-mm device operating at bandwidths up to 45 MHz and with very low dark current (typically 1 nA).
