A generation of intelligent Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switches promising to accelerate deployment of secure unified communications infrastructures, the StrataXGS 200 series reportedly consists of the industry's first GbE switches produced in 65-nm CMOS process technology. According to the company, 65-nm process technology allows for more memory and logic on a single chip, which translates into better security and increased system performance. The series consists of three devices, each providing four uplinks: the BCM56224 (24 GbE ports), BCM56226 (16 GbE ports), and the BCM56228 (8 GbE ports). Each device can operate at 10/100/1,000 Mb/s. They also integrate a 32-bit MIPS CPU for running network-management applications. The StrataXGS 200 switches are sampling now with pricing available upon request. BROADCOM CORP., Irvine, CA.
