In the MAX3832, a 3.3V, 2.5-Gbps SDH/SONET four-channel interconnect mux/demux with clock generator, is a 4:1 multiplexer and 1:4 demultiplexer that allows data to be sent over a pair of wires or fibers connecting telecomm equipment. It enables high-speed, rack-to-rack, shelf-to-shelf and card-to-card interconnects to be made using a single pair of fibers. Applications include SDH/SONET backplanes, dense digital cross-connects, and intra-rack/subrack interconnects. The IC consumes just 1.6W and has excellent jitter performance: random jitter of 2.5 psRMS and deterministic jitter of 11 ps. It offers four parallel 622-Mbps SDH/SONET LVDS channels, which are bit-interleaved to generate a serial data stream of 2.488 Gbps for interfacing to an optical or electrical driver. Evaluation kits are available.
