Integrating a comprehensive feature set for industrial applications, the SN65HVD family of full-duplex RS-485 transceivers offers 3.3V (SN65HVD33/34/35) and 5V (SN65HVD53/54/55) operation and accommodate up to 256 devices on a single bus. Each of the six transceivers includes ESD protection in excess of 15 kV as per the human body model. They are differential line drivers/receivers with separate input and output pins and interoperate with ANSI TIA/EIA-485A, TIA/EIA-422-B, ITU-T V.11, and ISO 8482:1993 devices. Depending on the transceiver, data rates range from 1 Mb/s to 25 Mb/s. Shared features include a standby current of less than 1 µA, glitch-free power up/down, bus idle, open- and short-circuit failsafe, and an operating temperature range from -40°C to +85°C. Also, a one-eighth unit-load option is available. Housed in 14-pin SOIC packages, prices for the HVD3x and HVD5x devices are $1.85 and $1.75 each/1,000, respectively.
