The main feature of the MetroMapper 622 EoS mapper/framer device is its ability to support current and emerging Ethernet/data transport services over existing optical-fiber metropolitan area networks (MANs). It is also described as the only EoS chip to employ a hitless link capacity adjustment scheme (LCAS) with Layer 2 functionality and as having the industry's highest virtual concatenation group (VCG) density. The device provides up to 64 VCGs and accommodates the insertion and/or creation of VLAN and MPLS labels. Multiple configurations are possible including Ethernet/Fast Ethernet/Gigabit EoS and packet-to-SPI-3 over SONET/SDH. Support is available for up to 16 Ethernet/Fast Ethernet ports or up to two Gigabit Ethernet ports with independent mapping of each into a single STS-12/STM-4 or four STS-3/STM-1 channelized payloads. Additional features include an OIF SPI-3 interface with 64 port addresses. Available in a 1,024-contact BGA, low-volume pricing is $280 each. INFINEON TECHNOLOGIES AG, San Jose, CA. (408) 501-6390.
