For easing the design of BPON and GPON triplex applications, the DS1865 optical control, calibration, and monitor chip integrates GPON power-leveling functionality, a laser bias average-power-control (APC) loop, video amplifier control, and SFF-8472 diagnostic and alarm features. The device, optimized to work with the MAX3643 burst-mode laser driver, employs lower-cost CMOS technology. It also integrates several analog functions including a 13-bit ADC with input scaling, which provides a 29-dB dynamic range. The integral temperature sensor is factory-calibrated and claims 50% less error than similar devices. Additionally, a tracking error lookup table provides compensation for laser-monitor diode error. Available now in a 28-pin, 5 mm x 5 mm TQFN, pricing for the DS1865 is $1.98 each/10,000. MAXIM INTEGRATED PRODUCTS, Sunnyvale, CA. (800) 998-8800.
