Operating at speeds up to three times faster than 8051-based USB 2.0 device controllers, the USS2828 USB 2.0 controller integrates an ARM7TDMS microprocessor and delivers a performance level in the realm of 40 MIPS. Reportedly, a comparable 8051 device processes data at 12 MIPS. Including the processor core, the USS2828 integrates 10 technologies: a USB 2.0 high-speed PHY and device controller, direct memory access controller, memory controller, programmable interrupt controller; ROM, RAM, GPIO, and two timers. The chip supports both high-speed (480 Mb/s) and full-speed (12 Mb/s) data transfers. Available now, price varies with volume. AGERE SYSTEMS, Allentown, PA. (800) 372-2447.
