With Wi-Fi chipsets being embedded into more products every day, including cell phones, it is more critical than ever that manufacturers know the real impact of Wi-Fi capability on product power consumption and battery life. Azimuth Systems just released information on their new Wi-Fi Power Consumption Benchmark Suite that allows design engineers to measure the power consumption during various Wi-Fi usage modes and to run profiles that can determine the impact of Wi-fi connectivity on a device's battery life. The suite runs on Azimuth's W-Series test platform hardware and lets manufacturers to optimize product design and power consumption algorithms to extend battery life. This new test system is the first solution that can measure current and voltage in various operational states allowing vendors to predict average power consumption over the life to a typical battery under different operating conditions.
