Targeting communications equipment manufacturers in the enterprise/carrier-class network, wireless infrastructure, and access network markets, the 821068 chip is reportedly the first octal codec capable of processing eight individual analog voice channels. Two new quad codecs, the 821054 and 821064, are also available, each dedicated to either the industry-standard microprocessor interface (MPI) or general communications interface (GCI).The three devices are said to offer a high level of programmability by means of a feature set that includes ac-impedance matching, tone generation, trans-hybrid balance, frequency-response correction, gain setting, and selectable MPI or GCI. The programmability is designed to allow easy adaption of the devices to various standards and applications, while also delivering a low cost per port and fast time-to-market. The 64-pin quad codecs cost $3.90 each/10,000, while the 1,128-pin octal codec is priced at $10.50. For more details, contact INTEGRATED DEVICE TECHNOLOGY INC., Santa Clara, CA. (800) 345-7015.
