The GigaStream intelligent switch fabric chipset supports system configurations of up to 32 OC-48 ports with a maximum of 80 Gb/s of aggregate bandwidth with up to 320 Gb/s of available backplane bandwidth. The chipset enables QoS support for IP, ATM and Gigabit Ethernet protocols as well as providing dedicated resources for both unicast and multicast traffic. The chipset consists of the VSC872 queuing engine and the VSC882 crossbar switch. Sampling now, the VSC872 in a 440-ball BGA package is priced at $227 and the VSC882 in a 304-ball BGA package costs $145, each/1,000.
